You won't walk past this cabinet without stopping...

Udom Suk is a street in Bangkok that has an unusually high concentration of hole in the wall restaurants serving glorious duck – both roasted and boiled.

One of the places that really stuck out to me was a restaurant known as Bpet Paloe Goliang 2 (เป็ดพะโล้ โกเหลียง2). A family owned restaurant, they specialize in bpet paloe (เป็ดพะโล้), boiled Chinese style duck in soy sauce with a hint of cinnamon.

With a big turquoise sign and the normal glass cabinet stuffed with birds, I wasn’t going to walk past this one without tasting it for myself.

Salapao ซาลาเปา

Salapao ซาลาเปา

I started off by sampling their salapao (ซาลาเปา), steamed buns. They were decent, not the ‘Chinese baozi‘ that I was dreaming of, but more Thai style – softer and less bread, mushier filling but still tasty.

The plate of three salapao included one moo daeng (red barbecued pork), one moo saap (minced pork), and one bun filled with sweet egg yolk cream.

Price: 20 THB for 3

What I was most excited about was their prized looking ducks, glistening in the morning sunshine. After much contemplation I settled for a simple plate of khao na bpet paloe (rice and boiled duck ข้าวหน้าเป็ดพะโล้).

It was a beautiful plate that was delivered to my table, all ingredients were neatly positioned and place cleanly on the plate.

You're Going to Love This!

The duck was awesome, extremely tender, and lightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon – probably the best bpet paloe I’ve had since eating at Tho Pochanna a few months ago.

There was a drizzle of duck juice over the meat and the rice making it outrageously comforting. The little side of vegetables were equally tasty – they must have been boiled in duck juice.

Price: 35 THB

I was overjoyed by the accompanying sauce. Many restaurants slack when it comes to the sauce that’s served with their khao na bpet, but at Bpet Paloe Goliang 2, the sauce was excellent. It was nicely sour, laced with fiery chillies and sweetened up to unite the flavors.

The sauce was equally as good as the street stall outside Tesco on Suk Sawat.

The secret vault of boiling duck parts - YUM

The bowl of dark duck soup was a true culinary masterpiece. It was not overly sweet, not overly salty, but just extremely ducky – like delicious liquid duck concentrate.

Upon leaving the restaurant I learned why the soup was so unbelievably good (that pot of boiling goodness pictured above).

The restaurant also has a number of other dishes including noodles topped with duck, full plates of duck, khao man gai (chicken and rice) and a number of other items that I’m sure are delicious as well.

The great atmosphere

The great atmosphere

Along with good food, I loved the ambience. A nice Chinese influenced bottom story home with a high roof – not typical of Thai restaurants. The restaurant had the feeling of a very small basketball gym – and it was a fantastic dining environment.

It’s kind of like a Saturday morning type of spot you want to visit for brunch, devour a few plates of duck and then drink a few cups of coffee – then of course relax!

Next time you want boiled duck, go to Udom Suk, you surely won’t be disappointed.

The Bottom Line

Amazing bpet paloe paired with a great atmsophere (homely environment) makes Bpet Paloe Goliang 2 a true winner in the world of Thai duck restaurants.
