Your Neighborhood Thai Restaurant, and This Lady Can Cook!

Pad see ew (ผัดซีอิ๊ว)

A few weeks ago I posted a video about pad see ew (ผัดซีอิ๊ว).

Since the video was taken at just a tiny neighborhood restaurant, I didn’t publish the location.

However, after the video, I received a number of requests about how to find that pad see ew.

Here’s the video if you missed it…

So I had a chance to go back a few days ago, eat some more food, and take some notes on how to get there.

It’s just a very very local, everyday neighborhood Thai restaurant, situated at the bottom of an old, and unmaintained shophouse. The paint on the walls has seen better days, and it appears that there are greasy food stains on the walls – that’s wallpaper I like!

The lady who cooks is what I would call a wizard with a wok.

She slaps the spatula around like it’s a toy, whipping up some tasty  Thai “ahan dtam sang (อาหารตามสั่ง),” or stir fried, classics.

This time around, I began with a plate of gai pad prik kaeng (ไก่ผัดพริกแกง), one of my favorite lunch dishes.

The chicken was fried with long beans, banana peppers, a few carrots and mushrooms, and flavored with red chili paste. It was a great mixture.

I also had a dish, probably the most commonly available lunchtime dish in Bangkok, pad kra pao gai (ผัดกระเพราไก่).

I ordered it with chicken, and it came loaded with a wonderful high ratio of holy basil to chicken, the way I like it. It had a perfect amount of chili spice, and wasn’t too salty.

Finally I had a bowl of suki nam ruam mit (สุกี้น้ำรวมมิตร), a mix of vegetables in a soup with glass noodles, pork, and shrimp, served with a sweet chili sauce.

The suki was good and a big portion.

NOTE: There are similar restaurants all over Bangkok (and throughout Thailand), in every single neighborhood. So while I’m going to post the directions on how to get here, I don’t really think it’s worth coming all the way here just to eat. But if you’re in the area, by all means stop by. The food is excellent, but similar restaurants that serve similar food, exist all over Bangkok.

Location: Restaurant is on Sukhumvit 101/1 (Wachiratham Sathit), then down to Soi 26. On Soi 26, turn right, go past the market and after a couple block you’ll see the restaurant on your left right hand side. It’s just down the soi from a great morning jok stall.

It’s about a 20 minute walk from Punnawithi BTS station.
